Come to Yourself: The Father is Waiting

A Call to Return Without Shame
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food enough to spare, and I perish with hunger!’” — Luke 15:17 (NKJV)
We all stumble. We all fall short. Sometimes the consequences of our choices break our hearts, and if we’re not careful, we let guilt and shame do what sin never could—keep us away from the Father.
I was recently talking with a dear friend who was deeply grieved by a wrong decision. She was condemning herself, convinced that because of her mistake, she couldn’t be close to God. As she wept, the Holy Spirit stirred in me and said:
“Tell her to come to herself… and come back to Me.”
💔 Condemnation is Not from God
Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
God doesn’t condemn you—He calls you back. The voice of the enemy accuses, but the voice of the Father invites.
That’s what the prodigal son did. He “came to himself”—he remembered who he was, and more importantly, who his father was.
He didn’t come back to a lecture.
He didn’t return to punishment.
He came home to love running toward him
What the Father Does When You Return:
He Runs to You
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son…” (Luke 15:20)
The Father doesn’t wait for you to grovel—He runs toward you the moment your heart turns back.He Changes Your Clothes
The son came home dirty and worn down, but the father said, “Bring the best robe…” (v.22)
God removes our shame and clothes us with righteousness, garments of salvation, and the garment of praise instead of the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3, Zechariah 3:4).He Gives You New Shoes
“Put sandals on his feet…” (Luke 15:22)
You are no longer a slave, but a child. He restores your peace, your purpose, and your direction. He prepares your feet with the Gospel of Peace (Ephesians 6:15).He Places a Ring on Your Finger
The ring represented authority—it was the father's signature seal. When God restores you, He re-establishes your authority in Christ. You can pray, declare, and live boldly in Jesus’ Name again.
The Power of Coming to Yourself
Coming to yourself is the first step to coming back to God. It’s the moment you say:
“Wait… I’m not meant to live like this. I’m a child of God. I don’t belong in this pain, shame, or guilt.”
God isn’t waiting to punish you—He’s waiting to restore you.
If you’ve drifted…
If shame has made you feel unworthy…
If you’ve been trying to “earn” your way back…
STOP.
Come to yourself. Return to the Father. Let Him run to you.
